Erik Kormann

Erik Kormann is a Berlin-based cultural scholar and fragrance composer whose Eau de Toilette line is offered through the independent soap enterprise 1000&1 Seife. Founded in 2001 by Xenia Trost, the Berlin business later operated with Kormann as partners, and his route into perfume grew from selling Trost’s soaps after his studies and working with the soap manufactory. His early fragrance practice drew on aromatherapy training and natural essential oils before perfumer Geza Schön encouraged him to incorporate synthetic materials. Kormann’s creative approach favors transparent, economical compositions and openness about ingredients and process, including publishing perfume-making information on his blog. The line developed a numbered, month-associated structure: Juli, August, September, and November pair each month with its number and the number of materials used; reference records date August to 2008, Juli to 2009, and September to 2010. Its clearest fragrance family is Eau de Froehliche, a series shaped by Kormann’s interest in incense and presented through oriental, cool, and fruity interpretations. The work also includes collaborations and perfumes by other creators, including Philip Kraft, Alain Alchenberger, and Sebastian Reuter.
