Eris Parfums
Eris Parfums launched in 2016, founded by Barbara Herman after years spent collecting and researching vintage perfume, writing Yesterday’s Perfume, and authoring Scent and Subversion in 2013. Based in New York City, the American fragrance brand takes its name and creative premise from Eris, the Greek goddess of discord, expressing that association through unconventional beauty and subversive glamour. Herman developed the house after interviewing perfumer Antoine Lie for her book and asking him to create fragrances inspired by vintage perfumery’s boldness for a modern audience. Lie composed the first trio—Ma Bête, Belle de Jour, and Night Flower—presented as La Belle et la Bête. Animalic florals define Eris’s early fragrance identity, while its vintage influence is philosophical rather than strictly retro: Ma Bête is a modern take on vintage animalics. Herman remains identified as the brand’s owner and creative director. Green Spell was announced in 2020 for a 2021 launch, and Delta of Venus followed in July 2023 as a guava-centric floral created by Lie.
