Euphorium Brooklyn
Founded in 2015 by Brooklyn-based artist and self-taught perfumer Stephen Dirkes, Euphorium Brooklyn grew from his stop-motion film project Euphorium Bile Works. Its fictional 1860s Brooklyn perfume house and three invented perfumers became the narrative framework for a research-driven creative project combining perfumery with storytelling, filmmaking, photography, music, and historical research. The early olfactory identity emphasized rich, heavy compositions with earthy, rooty, and smoky depth; its first three fragrances were issued in oil-based formulations, with alcohol-based relaunches planned for 2016. In 2024, Pure Grenada extended the work into a West Indies-focused direction, beginning as a commission from Grenada’s Tourism Authority for a national signature scent before becoming a wearable eau de parfum in May. Blue Tea continued that direction through Dirkes’s work at The Tower Estate in Grenada and its butterfly-pea tea, garden, and afternoon-tea setting. Euphorium Brooklyn is especially associated with dark, layered, resinous constructions, with chocolate identified as a hallmark of Dirkes’s work and Chocolatl as a defining example.
