Evocative Perfumes

Evocative Perfumes is an independent Australian artisan perfume brand associated with perfumer Mark Evans. Evans’s interest in perfumery began in his thirties; after studying organic chemistry, he developed his practice through self-directed experimentation and online collaboration, creating the brand to share the process of turning experiments into perfumes. The earliest fragrance edition recorded for Evocative Perfumes dates to 2012, with Evans identified as the nose behind its fragrances. Its creative identity is material-led and experimental, beginning with raw materials and allowing compositions to develop organically rather than targeting a predefined audience. Evans initially chose an alcohol-free perfume-oil format to make international shipping easier and refined it through experimentation with oil blends and concentrated perfume materials. The house’s documented work includes Olibanum, inspired by frankincense, and Nirvana, a study of oud. A 2017 launch, Fetische, developed from Evans’s tuberose accord and a later leather accord. After roughly a decade of experimentation, the brand also turned toward helping hobbyists and artisans obtain small quantities of perfumery materials, particularly in Australia.
