Fendi

Founded in Rome in 1925 by Adele and Edoardo Fendi, Fendi began with a boutique combining handbags and a fur workshop. The five Fendi sisters later developed the family business, shaping an identity around fur, leather goods, craftsmanship, experimentation, and creativity. Karl Lagerfeld’s collaboration with the house began in 1965 and lasted 54 years; Silvia Venturini Fendi joined him in artistic leadership in 1992 and took responsibility for accessories in 1994. She designed the Baguette bag, presented at Fendi’s autumn-winter 1997–1998 show; the Palais Galliera describes it as one of fashion’s first it-bags, with demand strong enough to produce waiting lists. LVMH acquired Fendi in 2000 and became its majority shareholder in 2001. In 2024, Fendi presented a family-centered high-perfumery collection of seven narrative fragrances inspired by members and significant figures of the Fendi family. On 14 October 2025, LVMH announced Maria Grazia Chiuri as Chief Creative Officer, and her first collection for Fall-Winter 2026–2027 paid tribute to the five sisters’ collective creativity through the motto “Less I, More Us.”
