Ferragamo

Ferragamo began in Florence in 1927, when Salvatore Ferragamo founded the first company with a focus on women’s footwear. The story had already taken him to Hollywood: in 1923 he opened the Hollywood Boot Shop and became known in the press as a shoemaker to the stars. The brand’s early identity combined Florentine artisanal traditions with more systematized production, including experiments such as the cork wedge patented in 1937 and the use of alternative materials during wartime shortages. After Ferragamo’s death in 1960, his widow Wanda took over, and the business broadened from footwear into women’s leather goods and ready-to-wear in 1965, followed by silk and accessories in 1971 and men’s footwear and clothing during the 1970s and 1980s. Ferragamo entered fragrance in 1997 through Ferragamo Parfums, a joint venture with Bulgari, and acquired Bulgari’s entire interest in 2001. F by Ferragamo, created by Francis Kurkdjian, was presented in 2006 as a new signature scent linked to the house’s footwear heritage. In 2022, the brand introduced a new logo and distinctive red color, while Maximilian Davis’s first collection debuted in September after his appointment as creative director that March.
