Fiat
Founded in Turin on 11 July 1899 as Società Anonima Fabbrica Italiana di Automobili–Torino by Giovanni Agnelli and other partners, Fiat diversified beyond automobiles into trucks and diesel engines in 1903, aircraft engines in 1908, and agricultural tractors from 1929. After the Second World War, mass production and increasing automation helped the company become a major force in Italian mass motorization. Its automotive history includes the Fiat 500 Topolino, launched in 1936, the Nuova 500 of 1957, and the Panda, introduced in 1980. Fiat’s public identity is associated with Italian heritage, design, innovation, and urban and compact mobility. The company acquired control of Chrysler in 2009, and the combination became Fiat Chrysler Automobiles in 2014. On 16 January 2021, the merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA created Stellantis, of which Fiat is now a brand.
