Folie à Plusieurs
Studio Folie was founded by Kaya Sorhaindo in Berlin in 2013, and Folie à Plusieurs began its public fragrance activity the following year with the launch of Le Cinéma Olfactif. Growing from Sorhaindo’s Six Scents initiative, conceptualized in 2008, the brand translates film, literature, art, and performance into scent through collaborations between artists and perfumers. Le Cinéma Olfactif pairs selected films with fragrances developed in response to moments within each work, incorporating scent into screenings; documented collaborations include Mood Indigo, The Virgin Suicides, The Lobster, and Enter the Void. This artist-to-artist method was exemplified by perfumer Mark Buxton, who independently developed fragrances in response to selected film scenes. The brand’s work developed across Berlin and New York, and in 2021 it collaborated with the Noguchi Museum and Erased Tapes Records on Co, an incense line paired with an accompanying album. Its fragrance for La Haine was reported as one of its most popular with customers.
