Fragrance house
Ford
Founded by Tom Ford in 2005, the luxury house began with fragrance and eyewear and introduced its womenswear collection in 2010. Its beauty business was created through a partnership with Estée Lauder, while Marcolin became its eyewear partner. Ford’s earlier creative work at Gucci and Yves Saint Laurent shaped his public design identity. Tom Ford Beauty launched in 2006 with Black Orchid, followed in 2007 by the 12-fragrance Private Blend range. In November 2022, Estée Lauder announced an agreement to acquire the brand and its intellectual property. After the sale, Ford stepped down in 2023; Estée Lauder is now the sole owner. Haider Ackermann became creative director on September 4, 2024, with responsibility for fashion and the overall creative vision. Black Orchid was the brand’s first fragrance, initially positioned for women and also adopted by men, while Private Blend’s 2007 introduction changed expectations for designer fragrance within luxury niche perfumery.
