Fragrance house
Fragrance Library
Demeter Fragrance Library traces its birth to 1996 in New York City’s East Village. Founded by Christopher Brosius and Christopher Gable, the house began with a mission to capture nature’s fragrances in wearable form, launching with Grass, Tomato, and Dirt. Its identity centers on fragrances inspired by everyday objects and experiences, typically expressed as single-note, linear compositions that remain consistent over time. Freedom Marketing Group acquired the brand in 2002. Brosius, a co-founder and creative director, shaped its unusual single-note creations before leaving in 2004 to establish CB I Hate Perfume. His Demeter work received Fragrance Foundation awards for Snow in 2000 and Sugar Cane in 2001. Dirt is identified as the brand’s best-selling product and was described in 1999 as its most popular fragrance. In Europe, the brand uses the name The Library of Fragrance and is described as family-owned and operated.
