Frapin

Frapin traces its family history to 1270, when the Frapin family settled near Segonzac in Charente as winemakers before later becoming distillers. Rooted in southwest France’s Grande Champagne region and associated with Château de Fontpinot, the brand’s history includes François Rabelais among its ancestors, Pierre Frapin’s appointment as apothecary to Louis XIV, and a family coat of arms dating to 1697. Its record includes a gold medal at the 1889 Paris World’s Fair and, in 2008, International Spirits Challenge recognition for Multimillésime n°1 as the world’s best spirit. Frapin’s fragrance line began with Béatrice Cointreau and 1270, named for the family’s settlement year; in 2007, Différentes Latitudes acquired the Parfums Frapin license and shifted perfume development to David Frossard while retaining a partnership with the Frapin family. Under Frossard’s artistic direction, the perfumes draw on terroir, cognac, history, and French cultural references, expressing cognac culture through perfume. 1270 is the clearest signature example: it was described as the brand’s bestselling fragrance, relaunched after repeated requests, and received a 2010 award for best niche fragrance for men.
