French Connection
Founded in 1972 by Stephen Marks, French Connection began as a design-led clothing brand. It later broadened into accessories, homeware, toiletries, watches, footwear and other lifestyle categories, while defining its identity around design distinctiveness, creative development, consistent quality and accessible products. In spring 1997, advertising executive Trevor Beattie developed the FCUK identity from an abbreviation originating in an internal reference to French Connection Hong Kong. The resulting fcuk fashion campaign materially changed the brand’s public identity and helped transform it from a UK clothing chain into an internationally recognised fashion name. An acquisition structured through MIP Holdings for Apinder Singh Ghura, Amarjit Singh Grewal and KJR Brothers was financed by AURELIUS and Gordon Brothers, with support directed toward the business’s transformation. Effective February 2026, G-III entered a North American licensing agreement covering French Connection apparel and selected accessories.
