Gap

Founded in San Francisco in 1969 by Don and Doris Fisher, Gap began with a store selling men’s Levi’s jeans, records, and tapes. It introduced own-label products in 1974 and became a public company in 1976. Over time, the brand developed an identity rooted in American casual style, individuality, inclusivity, denim, and wardrobe essentials, while Doris Fisher helped shape its merchandising, advertising, and product development across nearly four decades. Gap Inc. remains the namesake brand’s sole owner. Gap entered fragrance in November 1994 with Grass, Day, Earth, and Heaven; Heaven was a top seller until Dream joined the line in August 1995. In July 2026, Gap announced Gap Beauty, an updated collection presented as a reimagining of its fragrance legacy, with Honorine Blanc—who worked on the original fragrances—and Nicole Mancini developing the collection.
