Garnier
Founded in France in 1904 by Blois hairdresser Alfred Amour Garnier, Garnier began with Lotion Garnier, a plant-based hair lotion developed in his salon. Between 1925 and 1944, the brand broadened into skincare and additional hair products. L’Oréal acquired Laboratoires Garnier in 1965, and Garnier remains part of its consumer-products division. Its post-acquisition development included the 1982 launch of the plant-based Ultra Doux shampoo range in France, followed by a global phase dated to 1995. Garnier later expanded across skincare, sun care, haircare, hair color, and body care, with its U.S. heritage account dating the skincare expansion to 2007. Today, its identity combines nature-derived ingredients with science, alongside an emphasis on efficacy, safety, sensorial formulas, inclusion, and environmental commitments. In fragrance terms, Ambre Solaire, launched in 1935 as a sunscreen-enriched tanning oil and later placed under the Garnier umbrella, became associated with beach holidays and a recognizable vacation-and-sun scent; it has also been described as a best-seller.
