Genny

Genny was launched in Ancona in 1962 by Arnaldo and Donatella Girombelli; Arnaldo initially produced women’s skirts and blouses in his boutique. In 1973, Gianni Versace became the brand’s stylist or creative director, followed in later years by associations with Claude Montana, Dolce & Gabbana, and Christian Lacroix. Donatella Ronchi joined Arnaldo in 1976 and took over management after his death in 1980. Prada acquired the Genny group from the Girombelli family in two phases between 2001 and 2002, then sold the brand on March 16, 2011 to Swinger International Group after it was no longer marketed after 2004. Swinger has owned Genny since then. Sara Cavazza Facchini became creative director in 2013, evolving and modernizing the brand’s established elegance, femininity, tailored cuts, and occasion dressing. In 2023–2024, Genny marked ten years under Facchini by revisiting pieces from the preceding decade in contemporary form. In fragrance, Genny (1987) is identified as the brand’s signature scent, a crisp fruity-floral chypre.
