Gianfranco Ferré
Gianfranco Ferré founded his eponymous company with entrepreneur Franco Mattioli in 1978, presenting its first women’s ready-to-wear collection that same year. The house expanded into menswear in 1982 and haute couture in 1986, when Ferré showed his first couture collection in Rome. Its design language reflects Ferré’s architectural training, with decisive lines, geometric forms, architectural volumes, and tailoring as recurring features. From 1989 to 1996, he served as artistic director of Christian Dior, overseeing womenswear, haute couture, and fur. Ferré died in 2007. After IT Holding entered bankruptcy protection, Italian government-appointed commissioners accepted Paris Group’s binding offer for the brand on February 7, 2011, with the Dubai-based group expected to take ownership by February 25. The fragrance chronology began with a women’s perfume in 1984 and a men’s fragrance in 1986; later entries included the unisex Gieffeffe in 1996 and Gianfranco Ferré 20 in 1998, released to mark the brand’s twentieth anniversary.
