Gloria Vanderbilt

The Gloria Vanderbilt fashion brand originated in 1976, when Gloria Vanderbilt launched a designer-jeans line with Mohan Murjani. Its early identity centered on women’s designer jeans, signature embroidery, and the swan logo, while Vanderbilt’s public creative persona—as an artist, author, model, and actress—extended into commercial fashion and fragrance. The name became most famous for its fragrances. Vanderbilt partnered with L’Oréal on fragrances from 1982 to 2002, and the original Vanderbilt perfume launched in 1982, created by perfumer Sophia Grojsman and classified as an oriental floral fragrance. On December 23, 1988, Murjani sold the Gloria Vanderbilt trademark to G.V. Gitano and assigned associated licensing rights. Gloria Vanderbilt died on June 17, 2019, aged 95; her death marked the end of the life of the person whose name and creative persona anchored the brand.
