Godet
Maison Godet was founded in Paris in 1901 by Julien-Joseph Godet, who had trained in perfumery in Grasse. He approached perfume composition as an artistic practice, guided by instinct and a search for rare, high-quality natural ingredients. The house’s early history was closely connected to the French art world: Godet met Pierre Bonnard in 1908, and Bonnard introduced him to Henri Matisse in connection with Godet’s Nice boutique. Godet opened that boutique on Avenue Jean Médecin in 1920. Fleurs de Reine, created in 1908 for Bonnard’s wife, was the house’s first perfume to use cold enfleurage for tuberose; Folie Bleue, created in 1925, won the Prix des Arts décoratifs in Paris. In the 1970s, the family business shifted from perfumes to natural food flavouring, interrupting the perfume house’s activity. Julien-Joseph’s great-granddaughter Sonia Godet took over in 2016 and formally relaunched the perfume house in Saint-Paul-de-Vence in July 2017, reviving historic fragrances while developing new creations.
