Goldwell

Goldwell was created to serve hairdressers as business partners, developing salon-exclusive products tailored to stylists’ needs. Its first product, an innovative cold perm, appeared in 1948, and Sprühgold followed in 1956 as the brand entered styling. Goldwell entered hair color with Topmodel in 1971 and Topchic in 1974, then expanded internationally to North America in 1979, the United States in 1982, and Australia in 1983. Kao acquired Goldwell in 1989, bringing it into the Kao group. In 2001, Goldwell launched Elumen, a non-oxidative permanent hair-color range using Kao-patented technology. Since 2004, it has held international hairdresser competitions and trend events focused on color, making stylist creativity and education part of its public brand identity. In 2024, Goldwell marked Topchic’s 50th anniversary and relaunched StyleSign. Its current identity places colorists at the center of its professional color, care, styling, education, and inspiration activities, under the 2026 platform “Color the future.”
