Gri Gri
Gri Gri is a Parisian fragrance brand launched in 2016 by perfumer Anaïs Biguine, who serves as its creator, perfumer, and creative director. Its creative identity draws on the history and cultural significance of tattooing, imagining fragrance for “messenger skin”—skin that carries personal messages. The opening collection comprised three Eau de Parfum fragrances inspired by tattoo traditions from Oceania and New Zealand, India, and Japan: Moko Maori, Tara Mantra, and Ukiyo-E. The same year, Sideshow became a fourth fragrance, extending the concept to tattooed people exhibited in nineteenth- and early-twentieth-century American sideshows. Ukiyo-E translates Japanese Irezumi, Edo-period floating-world imagery, Kabuki, genmaicha, and floral elements into an aromatic-aquatic composition, while Sideshow contrasts fairground candy accords with animalic leather and hyraceum. A later presentation describes the collection in both its traditional Eau de Parfum format and an Eau de Cologne format intended for full-body application through a fine mist.
