Halle Berry
Halle Berry’s fragrance venture began with a licensing agreement with Coty announced in March 2008, with Berry involved in conception, marketing, creative direction, and product development. Halle by Halle Berry launched in March 2009 after two years of development. Berry shaped the line’s visual and creative identity around personal authenticity and a connection to nature, rejecting an initial bottle design in favor of wave detailing and limiting her name to products in whose development she had meaningfully participated. The debut became the best-selling fragrance in the first half of 2009 at retailers including Target, CVS, Walgreens, and Kohl’s, and received the Fragrance Foundation’s 2010 Fragrance of the Year award in the Women’s Popular category. The line later included Pure Orchid and Reveal, followed by Closer, which launched worldwide in September 2012 with a direction intended for women and men. Mimosa appeared in all of Berry’s fragrances at the time of Closer’s launch, and she described it as her favorite flower. Coty reported in fiscal 2018 that it had divested or terminated the Halle Berry brand; the filing does not identify a buyer or transaction date.
