Hard Candy
Founded in 1995 by Dineh Mohajer, Hard Candy began with nail-polish colors she mixed while studying pre-med at USC. The Beverly Hills cosmetics company developed a distinctive identity through colorful, unusually named polishes and an edgy, street-influenced style. A 1995 television appearance by Alicia Silverstone, who discussed her baby-blue nail polish, helped bring public attention to the young brand. LVMH acquired Hard Candy in May 1999, with Mohajer retaining a minority shareholding and a creative role under a five-year contract. The Falic Group acquired the brand from LVMH in 2002. By 2016, cosmetics remained Hard Candy’s primary business, and its trademarks had been used continuously since the 1995 founding. Today, Hard Candy is part of the Falic Group portfolio and spans makeup and fragrances; its own site also presents skincare, nail, and body categories.
