Harve Bernard
Harve Bernard, documented in historical sources as Harvé Benard, was founded in 1967 by Bernard and Morton Holtzman. The American women’s apparel brand is associated with classic tailoring and versatile wardrobe pieces, including blazers, coats, suits, separates, dresses, skirts, pants, and knitwear. Its first recorded use in commerce for clothing was January 2, 1968, and it was a staple in many department stores during the 1980s. In 1993, the company manufactured women’s blazers sold through retailers including Saks Fifth Avenue and Filene’s Basement. Following litigation over cashmere labeling, its 1996 and subsequent blazer lines were labeled as made from recycled cashmere. In a 2006 Fashion Institute of Technology lecture, Bernard Holtzman described creating and running the company. By July 2015, Bluestar Alliance stated that it owned, managed, and marketed Harvé Benard as part of its consumer-brand portfolio.
