Hazel Fern Scents
Hazel Fern Scents began in 2006 with handmade candles, wax melts, and soaps created for family and friends. The business expanded from home fragrance into perfumes, incense, and balms. Its name comes from Hazel, the founder’s clairvoyant great-grandmother, and Betty Fern, her grandmother. The brand’s creative identity centers on memory, family stories, history, old books, folklore, ancestors, forgotten places, and the natural world, with many perfumes drawing on Victorian and Edwardian references. Johna Obscura is identified as the owner, creator, and maker. One of the earliest fragrances, Helen’s Kitchen, was inspired by stories of the founder’s grandmother’s apple pies and was created to translate family memory into scent. Another documented perfume oil, Sybil, draws inspiration from Downton Abbey character Lady Sybil and combines green, rain, earthy, and leather-associated accords.
