Head

HEAD began in 1950, when Howard Head incorporated HEAD Ski Company, Inc., with origins in composite-metal ski design. The company moved from skiing into tennis in 1968, launching a tennis division and introducing its first metal racket at the 1969 U.S. Open. Its ownership later changed through Howard Head’s sale to AMF in 1969, Minstar’s acquisition through the AMF takeover in 1985, and a 1989 management buyout that brought HEAD, Tyrolia, and Mares together as HTM. HTM was sold to Austria Tabak in 1993; Johan Eliasch took control in 1995, HEAD N.V. was formed and taken public in 2000, and the business became privately owned in 2013. HEAD’s public identity spans winter sports, racquet sports, sportswear, engineering-led design, and licensing. Its fragrance collection launched in 2022 through a collaboration with Desire Fragrances, which had acquired the HEAD fragrance licence in 2021; the line extends the sports identity through racket-shaped bottles and sporty caps, with fragrances for men and women.
