Headspace
Headspace is a French niche fragrance brand created by Nicolas Chabot around the idea of capturing fleeting impressions and reconstructing them with selected headspace extracts and natural raw materials. Chabot frames the project as an olfactory synthesis of science and poetry, rooted in fragrance’s ability to capture the surrounding world. Its defining method is headspace technology: capturing and analyzing the air around a living or inert object, then reconstructing the result; Headspace attributes the technology’s invention to Swiss chemist Roman Kaiser in the 1970s. Previewed at Esxence in June 2022, Headspace launched at IFF in October that year with seven fragrances, each translating a captured scent into a mood or situation. Its visual identity is tied to perfumers’ work: Jules Dinand designed the bottle as a life-size reconstruction of the small vials found on perfumers’ desks. Before creating Headspace, Chabot had relaunched Le Galion in 2014 and established ÆTHER in 2016.
