Fragrance house
HOC
HOC, short for Histoire Olfactive Collective, was founded by Masha Zanier in 2019 and officially presented at Milan’s Esxence trade show from April 25 to 28 that year. A Parisian of Russian and Georgian heritage who came from fashion, Zanier conceived the house to give greater attention to perfumers as the creative figures behind fragrances. HOC’s model places those artists at the center: its creators draw on personal memories and emotions, with fragrances developed without conventional creative briefs. The debut was 24H London, made with Vincent Schaller as a three-part story set across London at 11AM, 5PM, and 9PM; the collection took almost two years to create and was scheduled for release in September 2019. HOC’s collection-based approach continued with HOC x Mateo, a collaboration with Mateo New York that produced The Gemmes Collection, a trio inspired by Turquoise, Mother of Pearl, and Malachite. The project involved Firmenich perfumers Marie Hugentobler, Hélène Vonesch, and Sébastien Lacouture, with Hugentobler creating Turquoise and Lacouture creating Malachite.
