Hollywood Cosmetics
Hollywood Cosmetics was established in Japan on February 11, 1925, by Kiyoto Ushiyama and cosmetologist May Ushiyama. After working in Hollywood, Kiyoto Ushiyama opened a Tokyo beauty salon in 1925, began cosmetics manufacture and beautician training, and introduced permanent-waving technology and equipment to Japan. The company’s public identity is built around total beauty and May Ushiyama’s SBM method, which connects skin care, bodily health, and mental well-being. Its documented product history includes mascara, released in 1937, and the Orchid enzyme facial-pack line, introduced in 1960; Hollywood Cosmetics Co., Ltd. was established in Roppongi, Tokyo, in 1951. In 2025, the company commemorated its centenary with the launch of THE HOLLYWOOD, a product presented as linking its historical legacy with the future. Fragrance has appeared periodically in the brand’s history, including a powder perfume in 1956 and May Rose in 2011; current fragrance offerings include May Rose Perfume Powder and Eau de Parfum Utage.
