Hummel

Hummel traces its origin to 1923, when Max Albrecht Ludwig Messmer and his father, Michael Messmer, established Messmer & Co. in Hamburg and introduced a football shoe under the HUMMEL name. Bernhard Weckenbrock acquired the company in the early 1960s and modernized it, shifting emphasis from an individual product to a recognizable brand. In 1964, Hummel introduced its characteristic chevrons: two V-shaped lines representing team spirit, progression, and the drive to win. The company became Danish-owned in the early 1980s under Jørgen Vodsgaard and Max Nielsen, with several footballers among its part owners. In 1999, Christian Stadil and THORNICO entered Hummel; Stadil relaunched original sports styles and created its Sport Fashion business area, moving the public image toward a blend of sport and fashion. Company Karma projects began in 2006. Hummel marked its centenary in 2023 by reviving the Denmark 1986 World Cup jersey, while its parent group presents it today as a Danish sport and lifestyle brand spanning Sport, Style, and Kids.
