Fragrance house
Hunayn
Hunayn was founded in 2024 by self-taught perfumer Adill Ali. Named after the Battle of Hunayn mentioned in the Quran, the British fragrance house frames its identity through Islamic culture, history, and traditions. Its creative work combines handmade perfumery, Arabic calligraphy, and research into historical scent traditions, with an emphasis on representing natural materials and their histories. In December 2024, its early public launch presented a five-fragrance Signature Collection associated with Ali’s use of natural oils and absolutes. Duty & Death is a defining fragrance in the brand’s story, described as embodying Hunayn’s soul and as a tribute to the battle that gives the house its name. In June and July 2025, Hunayn announced revised versions of its signature perfumes, identifying Duty & Death as a continuing dark, brooding signature. Its current creative work also includes reconstructing recipes preserved in early Arabic manuscripts, translated and followed stage by stage.
