Ikiryō

Ikiryō is the perfumery identity of Vincent of Dreamhouse, a multidisciplinary creator whose work spans photography, costume, film, set design, makeup, and storytelling. Public fragrance records place the brand’s earliest documented releases in 2016, while a 2017 editorial described it as a new American fragrance brand. Its name refers to the Japanese folkloric spirit of a living person that leaves the body, an idea reflected in the brand’s framing of fragrance as an ethereal alter ego. Ikiryō developed its identity through literary and supernatural narratives, with full-bottle presentations accompanied by photographic books depicting those stories. Its themes ranged from dreams, nightmares, and sleepwalking to supernatural figures, doomed lovers, and questions of race and identity, including the 2018 These Miscegenic Three collection. The fragrances were characterized as a narrative-driven gothic gourmand line with sweet, vanillic, resinous, spicy, and liqueur-like directions. In early July 2020, Vincent announced that Ikiryō had ceased operation and would no longer sell its collection.
