Iman
Founded in 1994 by model and entrepreneur Iman after she retired from modeling, Iman Cosmetics was created for women of color. Its identity centers on cosmetics and skincare for women with skin of color across diverse racial and cultural backgrounds, responding to the lack of suitable complexion products for darker and varied skin tones. The brand expanded into skincare, fragrances, and adjacent fashion and home categories associated with Iman’s broader creative work. In 2014, Iman Cosmetics was included in Procter & Gamble’s brand-portfolio reduction; reporting at the time said the company either did not renew the license or sold brands including Iman Cosmetics. In South Africa, the regional operation is owned by Omega Cosmetics. Love Memoir, Iman’s debut fragrance, launched through HSN in November 2021 in partnership with Batallure Beauty. Conceived as a tribute to David Bowie, the scent drew on memories of their relationship, shared homes, and travels, with Iman involved in its concept and details.
