Fragrance house
Indigo
Indigo is a Cape Town-based cosmetics, fragrance and personal-care business that has operated in Southern Africa since 1955, having previously traded as Yardley of London (Africa) (Pty) Ltd. AVI Limited bought the company from SmithKline Beecham in 1992, and after Yardley of London entered liquidation in 1998, acquired the Yardley trademark for sub-Saharan Africa. Indigo registered Indigo Cosmetics as a wholly owned AVI subsidiary in 2001 and acquired the global Lenthéric trademark in 2004. In September 2010, following a restructuring into Prestige and Personal Care divisions, it adopted the name Indigo Brands to reflect its broader ambitions. Today, Indigo Brands remains wholly owned by AVI and develops, manufactures, distributes and markets cosmetics, fragrances and personal-care products for South African consumers.
