Ineke
Ineke is a San Francisco fragrance brand created by Canadian-born perfumer Ineke Rühland, who moved to Europe in 1988 to work in the fragrance industry, studied at ISIPCA in Versailles from 1996, trained in Grasse, and completed a three-year apprenticeship at a Paris fragrance house before relocating to San Francisco. Rühland developed Ineke around original perfume stories that bring together perfumery and her interests in design, literature, and the arts. Its main body of work is an alphabetized collection of perfumes with lyrical titles and a planned chronological progression; Hothouse Flower was identified as the eighth fragrance in the series in 2012, followed by Idyllwild as the ninth in 2017. She also created the separate Floral Curiosities collection for Anthropologie. In 2018, Rühland co-founded San Francisco niche-perfume retailer Ministry of Scent with Antonia Kohl, and a recent announcement said she had wound down Ineke Perfumes after 20 years to focus on that business. Field Notes from Paris, a patchouli-tobacco blend, was singled out in editorial coverage as a favorite Ineke fragrance.
