Jacques Fath
French designer Jacques Fath was born in 1912 and opened his first couture house in Paris in 1937. The house developed a post-war fashion identity combining glamour, playfulness, movement, and practical elements. Its atelier trained Hubert de Givenchy, Guy Laroche, and Valentino Garavani before they established their own fashion houses. After the war, Fath built a U.S. business relationship with Joseph Halpert and designed two annual collections for mass-market production and distribution in the United States. Fath entered fragrance with Chasuble in 1945, followed by Iris Gris in 1947, created with perfumer Vincent Roubert and especially associated with the house. Fath died of leukemia in 1954 at age 42, after which his wife Genevieve led the house until it continued operating until 1957. Panouge Group acquired the Jacques Fath brand in 2008, marking its modern revival. The current Iris Gris legacy is represented by L’Iris de Fath, reconstructed through an international perfumer competition supervised by Rania Naim, with Patrice Revillard and Yohan Cervi selected for the project.
