Jacques Griffe
Jacques Griffe founded his Paris haute couture house in 1941 after working for Madeleine Vionnet from 1935 or 1936 to 1939, where he developed expertise in draping and cutting. The house’s creative identity centered on draping, precise cutting, and the relationship between fabric and the body, with Griffe particularly associated with bias-cut garments, cocktail and evening dresses, and clean-cut coats. In 1947, he added a ready-to-wear line called Evolution. After Edward Molyneux retired in 1950, Griffe moved his operation into Molyneux’s former rooms at 5 rue Royale. The couture house is documented as operating from 1941 to 1968, when Griffe retired; later accounts describe the business as closing in the late 1960s. Jacques Griffe died in 1996.
