Fragrance house

Jafra

Founded in 1956 in Malibu, California, JAFRA was established by Jan and Frank Day, whose first names supplied the brand’s name: “JA” and “FRA.” It was built around beauty products sold through independent consultants, with an emphasis on creating business opportunities for women. An early breakthrough was Royal Jelly Milk Balm, which became a signature product and remains part of JAFRA’s skincare identity. Gillette acquired JAFRA in 1973. JAFRA launched its first fragrance in 1977, and its historical timeline describes the brand as a market leader in fragrance at that point. It expanded to Mexico in 1978, where the business later became important to its direct-selling and fragrance history. In 2022, JAFRA shifted from Vorwerk ownership to a Mexican direct-to-consumer group, with the brand preserved as a separate subsidiary within Betterware’s structure. Introduced in 2002, Navîgo Homme remained JAFRA’s number-one bestseller.
