James Bond

James Bond was created by Ian Fleming, who began writing Casino Royale in February 1952; the novel was published in the United Kingdom on 13 April 1953. In 1961, Albert R. Broccoli and Harry Saltzman formed EON Productions and Danjaq to bring Fleming’s Bond books to film, and Dr. No, their first Bond film, was released in 1962. The character’s public identity developed from Fleming’s literary British secret-service operative into a long-running film character developed by EON Productions. With GoldenEye in 1995, Broccoli transferred the Bond-producing mantle to his daughter Barbara Broccoli and stepson Michael G. Wilson. In 2005, Wilson and Broccoli chose to reboot the series, using Casino Royale to return 007 to a more realistic interpretation of Fleming’s character; the Daniel Craig era concluded with No Time to Die in 2021. Amazon’s 2022 acquisition of MGM gave it rights to distribute the Bond films. On 24 March 2025, Amazon MGM Studios, Wilson, and Broccoli closed a joint venture under which they remain co-owners of the James Bond intellectual property, while Amazon MGM received creative control of the franchise.
