James Galann

James Galann is associated with Galanos De Serene, a fragrance linked to the Galanos or Parfums Galanos house and to designer James G. Galanos. In 1951, James Galanos established his fashion business, Galanos Originals, after design work in New York, Hollywood, and Paris; the house remained based in Southern California. Its creative identity reflected his American couturier practice, with refined construction, quality materials, elegant eveningwear, and a West Coast fashion perspective. The fragrance line was developed as a licensed extension of the fashion label, with a Parfums Galanos license recorded in 1980. The original Galanos fragrance, introduced in 1979, won The Fragrance Foundation’s 1980 Fragrance of the Year award in the Women’s Prestige category. Galanos de Serene was a later house fragrance, with a U.S. trademark application for cologne and eau de perfume filed by James G. Galanos on March 6, 1996. James Galanos died in 2016 at age 92.
