Fragrance house

James Heeley

James Heeley is an English designer from Yorkshire who studied philosophy and aesthetics at King’s College London and lives and works in Paris. His move into perfumery grew from design work in France, including contact with Annick Goutal, followed by roughly twelve years learning perfume-making in a family-run laboratory in southern France. Launched in 2006, the Heeley fragrance house is an independent, owner-founder luxury perfume house whose creative identity encompasses fragrance, graphic design, bottles, packaging, and recyclable packaging. Its work moved from early fresh, light scents toward more complex compositions and later included an Extrait de Parfum collection. The house has no fixed concept, with an approach emphasizing natural materials, balance, freshness, elegance, and the combination of fragrance with visual design. Menthe Fraîche, one of the house’s first scents and identified as Heeley’s first work, established a modern interpretation of mint. In 2017, Heeley created Note de Yuzu with Maison Kitsuné’s Masaya Kuroki and Gildas Loaëc.
