Fragrance house

Jazz

Jazz is a fragrance released by Yves Saint Laurent, rather than an independently founded fragrance house. The Saint Laurent house was founded in Paris in 1961 by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. In 1966, it introduced Rive Gauche, a ready-to-wear line developed with the same creative attention as haute couture. In 1977, Saint Laurent presented a China-inspired couture collection alongside the launch of Opium, the first couture collection conceived around a scent. Yves Saint Laurent bought the Charles of the Ritz group from Squibb in 1986 to regain control of its fragrance business. Jazz launched in spring 1988 as the newest member of a six-fragrance YSL family and is classified within the fougère, woody-aromatic sphere. The house was acquired by Gucci Group in 1999 and is now part of Kering, while fragrance and cosmetics exploitation has been licensed to L’Oréal since the 2008 YSL Beauté transaction.
