Jean-Charles Brosseau

Jean-Charles Brosseau founded his own fashion house in Paris in 1955 after graduating from the École de la Chambre syndicale de la couture parisienne. In 1970, the house moved its boutique to Place des Victoires. It entered fragrance in 1981 with Ombre Rose, first presented at Bergdorf Goodman in New York; the perfume achieved success across France, the United States, the Middle East and the Far East and was recorded as a worldwide bestseller. The fragrance identity developed around the Ombre name, including the feminine Fleurs d’Ombre line, Collection Homme and later Ombre releases. Its creative vocabulary is Parisian and French, with restrained styling, resistance to passing trends, attention to fragrance materials and bottles associated with French craftsmanship. In July 1993, Inter Parfums acquired an exclusive worldwide license for Ombre Rose and future fragrances developed under its agreement with Jean-Charles Brosseau S.A.; a February 2001 Court of Appeal decision confirmed the requirement to turn over the license. Thomas Fontaine is identified as the perfumer behind recent creations including Ombre Musquée, launched in 2023.
