Jean des Salines
Jean des Salines was launched in 1945 by Swiss founder Jean Soutter alongside Jean d’Aigle as a Cologne brand, taking its name from the region around Soutter’s home in Switzerland. The brand originated within Cadentia, a perfume and Cologne business established that year in southern France, and its original creative identity was rooted in traditional eau de Cologne. Perfumer-creator Marc Florens joined Cadentia in 1985 and developed new formulas, including Eau des Collines, whose labels used a landscape associated with Aubagne and the Garlaban massif. Stéphanie Dargent, who joined the company in 1995, acquired it in 2010 and later modernized Jean des Salines’ packaging. In 2017, she partnered with Béatrice Leduby as the business changed its name to Cadentia; in 2019, Cadentia was acquired by Simon Ménard. Cadentia’s current history records a further transition to the name Cadentia Group in 2025. Its documented fragrance association is the eau de Cologne family, with Jean des Salines and Jean d’Aigle identified as Cadentia’s most famous creations.
