Fragrance house
Jean-Michel Duriez
Jean-Michel Duriez Paris is an author-led fragrance house launched by Jean-Michel Duriez in 2016, after he left Procter & Gamble in 2015; Duriez oversaw creative, marketing, and bottle development, while Guillaume Auffret managed commercial matters. Before establishing the house, Duriez worked at Jean Patou from 1997 and later created fragrances for Rochas, Dolce & Gabbana, Escada, Lacoste, and Yohji Yamamoto. The brand’s creative identity is grounded in emotion, memory, and storytelling, with fragrances described as balanced compositions with rounded structures. Its first perfume, L’Etoile et le Papillon, launched in 2016 as Duriez’s first composition signed under his own name and formed part of an initial Paris-oriented collection built around stories of love and encounters in Paris. The house’s public creative development also involved visual artist Noé Two, photographer Gérard Uféras, and writer Julie Gouazé. In 2020, Duriez founded Atelier JMD, continuing as an independent creator across fine fragrance, ambient fragrance, and technical perfumery, with memory and emotion remaining part of his stated practice.
