Jean-Louis Scherrer founded his couture house in Paris in 1962 at 182 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré, after working at Dior alongside Yves Saint Laurent and for Louis Féraud. The house moved to 51 avenue Montaigne in 1971 and later developed ready-to-wear alongside couture. Its visual identity was associated with leopard motifs, polka-dot skirts, softened shoulders and a compressed waist, while its graphic style was linked to Scherrer’s interest in the Bauhaus era. Successor designers including Erik Mortensen and Stéphane Rolland continued the fashion house before it closed in 2008. In 2011, JSB International, led by the Bensoussan family, acquired the Jean-Louis Scherrer brand or its licensing portfolio and sought to revive the label through licensing. Scherrer entered perfumery in 1979 with Jean-Louis Scherrer, followed by Scherrer 2 and Nuits Indiennes. The original fragrance is described as the brand’s signature scent, a women’s chypre and an enduring classic.
