Jeep
Jeep traces its origins to the U.S. Army’s 1940 request for a light reconnaissance vehicle; after testing competing designs in 1941, the Army selected Willys-Overland’s vehicle as its primary manufacturer. After World War II, Willys trademarked the Jeep name and developed it as a civilian off-road utility vehicle, producing the first civilian Jeep, the CJ-2A, in 1945. The 1963 Jeep Wagoneer combined four-wheel drive with an automatic transmission and pioneered the modern SUV. Jeep became a registered Willys-Overland trademark in 1950, then passed to Kaiser Jeep, American Motors Corporation in 1970, and Chrysler Corporation in 1987. On January 16, 2021, the FCA–Groupe PSA merger created Stellantis, bringing Jeep into the new company’s brand portfolio. Jeep’s heritage is expressed through freedom, adventure, authenticity, and passion, while its current SUV range spans internal-combustion, hybrid, and all-electric drivetrains, including the 4xe hybrid line and electric vehicles.
