Jergens
Founded in Cincinnati in 1882 by Andrew Jergens Sr. and Charles H. Geifus, the Andrew Jergens Company began with a coconut soap formulated for hard water. In 1901, it introduced a cherry-almond lotion that became known as Jergens Original Scent, shifting the company’s emphasis from cleansing toward moisturization. Jergens remains especially associated with its cherry-almond fragrance family, carried through Original Scent products, while its public identity centers on skincare, moisturizing, skin comfort, and everyday body care. Ownership changed in 1970, when the company became a wholly owned subsidiary of American Brands. Kao acquired the Andrew Jergens unit in 1988, bringing it into the Kao family, and the company adopted the name Kao Brands Company in 2004. In 2005, Jergens launched Natural Glow in the United States and Canada, combining daily moisturization with gradual tanning.
