Jimmy Choo
Jimmy Choo traces its origins to Professor Jimmy Y.K. Choo’s bespoke, handmade shoe studio in East London, established in the 1980s. J. Choo Limited was co-founded in 1996 by Professor Choo and Tamara Yeardye, later Tamara Mellon, with Sandra Choi joining as a founding director overseeing collection design. After opening its first boutique on London’s Motcomb Street, the brand opened boutiques in New York and Los Angeles in 1998. Its public profile was amplified by a mention in HBO’s Sex and the City and by its red-carpet dressing presence at the Academy Awards. Jimmy Choo expanded beyond footwear with bags in 2003, eyewear in 2007, and a men’s collection in 2011, while Choi has overseen collection design since the brand’s founding and serves as Creative Director. The company became publicly listed through a London IPO in 2014. Michael Kors Holdings completed its acquisition on November 1, 2017, and Jimmy Choo is now owned by Capri Holdings Limited. Its first fragrance, Jimmy Choo Eau de Parfum, launched globally in 2011 as a fruity chypre.
