John Richmond

John Richmond founded his eponymous fashion label in London in 1982 after graduating from Kingston Fashion School, drawing on the city’s early-1980s punk, music and nightlife culture. In 1984 he formed Richmond-Cornejo with Maria Cornejo; after the partnership ended, he returned to working under his own name, and the John Richmond Man and John Richmond Woman labels were introduced in 1988. The label’s creative language combines rock and punk references, street culture, precise tailoring and provocative graphics, shaped by influences including David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Roxy Music, punk and new wave. Destroy launched in 1990, followed by Destroy Denim in 1991, while the early-2000s runway debut of John Richmond denim and the RICH jean marked major stages in the brand’s development. In June 2017, the Ammaturo family acquired a majority stake in the brand. Richmond returned to London Fashion Week in 2025 with a collection centered on British street style, music and club culture. The fragrance line began with a feminine Eau de Parfum in 2009 and John Richmond for Men in 2010, followed by the four-fragrance genderless Unknown Pleasures collection in 2022.
