Johnson's
Johnson’s originated in the 1890s after Johnson & Johnson scientific director Fred Kilmer supplied talc to patients whose medicated plasters irritated their skin; Johnson’s Baby Powder debuted in 1894. The brand developed from that powder into a broader baby-care identity centered on gentle products, consumer partnership, and scientific discovery, with a stated mission to create mild products for every age and stage of a baby’s life. Its fragrance legacy is closely tied to a recognizable baby-powder scent described as an olfactory benchmark for baby products and recognizable through limited reformulation over the decades. In 2006, Johnson & Johnson extended the Johnson’s Baby Lotion fragrance to Baby Wash and Baby Cream, linking the scent across multiple products; Baby Lotion is identified as floral-powdery. As of 2026, Johnson’s is owned by Kenvue, which has operated independently since August 2023. On November 2, 2025, Kimberly-Clark agreed to acquire Kenvue, including Johnson’s, with the transaction still pending in 2026 and expected to close in the second half of the year, subject to regulatory and customary conditions.
